The volume was prepared to celebrate the life anniversary of the prominent theatre historian, PhDr. Adolf Scherl, CSc (1925). More than forty authors contributed to the book - in addition to theatre historians and theoreticians, both domestic and foreign, there are literary scholars, musicologists, historians and ethnologists. (The German-language contributions are published in the original, the English ones are translated into Czech.) Some of the studies deal with theoretical issues, many contributions are devoted to the analysis of specific works of art, and there are also works of a material nature. The topics covered in the individual essays are often treated for the first time, or in previously unexplored contexts and from a completely new angle.
